You might have been to
other wedding photography conferences - but you've never seen anything quite
like this!
May we introduce, the NineDots
Gathering in London.
We
invite you to join us at this exclusive two-day ‘anti-conference’ at Bounce,
Farringdon on Wednesday 16th and
Thursday 17th November 2016.
But
you’ll have to be quick to secure your place. There’s only a limited number of
tickets left for the NineDots

wedding photographers.
-The
fun-filled two-day event brings together 150 like-minded wedding photographers
to learn, get inspired and socialise together.
It’s

plenty of time to meet other photographers, presenters and even play a game or
two, it’s anything but your run-of-the-mill conference. The exciting NineDots

INSPIRATIONAL ARTS PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD 2016 ANNOUNCED |
This
was the seventh year of the Inspirational
Arts Photography Award
We had two goals in mind when we established the Award
in 2009. We wanted to give
something back to the students who supported us over the years with their
custom. We also wanted to make our small exhibition space available
to photography, as it was so under-represented in art galleries in Ireland
at that time. Seven years later
we are delighted that the award is held in such high esteem, and we hope it
continues to be of some help to graduates in photography in the early
stages of their careers.
The Award is open to all final year students on the BA
Photography programmes at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Griffith College Dublin (GCD) and the Institute of Art, Design and Technology
(IADT). Entry is automatic and is based on the
students' work presented in the Graduate Exhibition of each of the
participating colleges. We invited a
leading member of the photography community in Ireland to judge the students’
work at each of the graduate exhibitions and to select one student from each
college to go forward to the final stage.
The three short-listed candidates were invited to show
their work in a group exhibition at Inspirational Arts running through
September and October. The winner of the award was announced at the opening of
the exhibition on Culture Night last Friday, the 16th
September. The exhibition runs for 4
weeks.
The winner Hannah
Tiernan (GCD) received €500 in cash as a contribution to their next
photographic project, plus a printing voucher for an additional €500.
The runners-up, Cale Perrin (IADT)
and Raimonda Milasiene (DIT) each
received printing vouches for €250.

CALUMET PHOTOGRAPHIC SUPPORT & HOST CHARITY EXHIBITION |
Air
ambulance teams captured in Photography Exhibition
Movements of the life-saving charity London’s Air
Ambulance have been captured and unveiled as part of a photography exhibition. Members
of the public, who have captured the advanced trauma team in helicopter and
rapid response cars en route to critically injured people in London, have been
submitting their photos in a social media competition. More than 150 people entered and 12 shots were
selected, which have been printed in a 2017 calendar with proceeds going to the
charity.
The exhibition and competition has been supported by
Calumet Photographic, which hosted the event at its Drummond Street store in
London. Jon Warner, Managing Director of Calumet Photographic,
which has its head office in Tilbrook, Milton Keynes, as well as an online shop
and eight stores across the country, said: “Supporting
charities is hugely important to us as a company and we cannot think of a
better organisation to support than London’s Air Ambulance. We know the work
they do is extremely important and the team have helped to save tens of
thousands of lives over the years. The calendar showcases some truly amazing
talent, as well as reminding people of what an important job the medical crew
do.”
Calumet Photographic is a leading photography
equipment retailer supporting amateurs and professionals. It also provides rentals, runs workshops, offers a student membership scheme, and has studio spaces available to
hire for shoots.
Calendars are priced at 8.50GBP and can be bought at http://londonsairambulance.co.uk/support-us/communityfundraising/calendar-2017

NEW APPOINTMENT: PHOTO-INDUSTRY GURU TO HEAD NEW-LOOK BOWENS SALES TEAM |
Aurelius,
the pan-European investment company that recently acquired the Calumet Photographic
and Bowens International group, has announced the appointment of UK photo
industry guru Terry Caws to head the Bowens sales team
Caws, who has spent over 35 years in the imaging
industry, will take over as sales director at the Bowens HQ in Colchester,
Essex, with immediate effect. After
beginning his career as an apprentice at a photo retail store, Caws went on to
buy the business before later selling it and moving to Agfa to work with
leading photographers and prolabs. He then moved to Calumet and worked in
distribution management and later Interfit Photographic, before launching his
own commercial consultancy.
He said: “I have
worked with Bowens inventory for many years as a distributor – so I am very
familiar with the products. The photokina launch of groundbreaking Generation X
lines, under the umbrella of the highly proactive and forward-thinking Aurelius
management, makes this a very exciting time for this legacy lighting company
and a signature moment for me.” He
added: “Bowens enjoys a loyal following
with photographers across the globe and the brand has never been better placed
to grow in all its markets. I am thrilled to be heading the sales operation as
we begin the roll-out for Generation X and successive cutting edge products
from our exceptional R&D team in coming months.”
Eugene Ciemnyjewski, Bowens’ general manager said: “There is no doubt that Terry has ‘guru’
status in this industry with his peerless 35-year record of exemplary service
and commitment across all key commercial disciplines. We are delighted to have
him on board heading our sales function at such a significant moment in the
company’s history.”

BELFAST EXPOSED PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY: WELCOME TO BELFAST MARTIN PARR |
Dates - 14 October – 23
December 2016
Belfast
Exposed is delighted to present this newly commissioned body of work by world
renowned photographer, Martin Parr.
Since
the Good Friday Agreement in 1998, Northern Ireland has witnessed a dramatic
economic resurgence. The tourism industry has flourished, bringing large-scale
investment and unprecedented numbers of overseas visitors to the city. In
recent years the tourist industry has been predominantly shaped by two key
historical events; the legacy of the Titanic, the ill-fated ship that was built
in the Belfast docks and the ‘Troubles’, a 40 year period of violent conflict
whose resonances can still be keenly felt throughout Northern Ireland.
In 2012, the new Titanic Belfast Centre opened its doors, attracting 800,000
visitors in its first year. This staggering flow of tourists to the city
has been propelled by the recent upsurge in cruise liners now docking into
Belfast. Many of these boats let loose over 3000 tourists a day and often there
are as many as three boats a week. Elsewhere in the city, more grass roots
industries have developed with the rise of ‘Troubles Tours’ taking in some of
the key locations and political murals from the bloody days of the
conflict. Belfast Exposed have commissioned Martin Parr to make a new
documentary project on Tourism in Belfast.
Artist
Biography
- Martin Parr is one of the best-known documentary photographers of his generation.
With over 90 books of his own published, and another 30 edited by Parr, his
photographic legacy is already established.
Parr
also acts as a curator and editor. He has curated two photography festivals,
Arles in 2004 and Brighton Biennial in 2010. More recently Parr curated the
Barbican exhibition, Strange and Familiar. Parr has been a member of the
Magnum agency since 1994 and is currently the organisation's president. In 2013
Parr was appointed the visiting Professor of photography at the University of
Ulster. Parr’s work has been collected by many of the major museums, including
the Tate, the Pompidou Centre and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Acknowledgements - This exhibition was
made possible by the generous support of Arts Council Northern Ireland and
Belfast City Council. Belfast Exposed would also like to thank Titanic Belfast
and Rayanne House for their assistance in this project.
