During this presentation, Damian the Olympus Principal Photographer and Educator, will re-examine the fundamentals of core camera craft, combined with his insight from the real working world of commercial fashion photography.   With the benefit of his 30 years in the photographic industry, Damian will demonstrate how to take otherwise mundane portraiture and put a saleable fashion twist on it. In addition, he will show how with the proper education and application, portable lighting equipment can produce big-time studio results.

Damian will be shooting with the new OLYMPUS PEN-F  and using a selection of LASTOLITE products to demonstrate some unique lighting techniques.

In addition, meet expert Ben Russell on the Olympus Stand main floor – he  is a genial illustrative photographer and photography tutor who has ditched his DSLRs and now shoots entirely with the Olympus OM-D Cameras. His work includes art and craft product photography, magazine illustration and wedding/portrait work. He has had over 6,000 images published.

OLYMPUS NEW PEN-F PROVES BEAUTY HAS NO NEED FOR DSLR BEASTS

As many photography enthusiasts will confirm, the satisfaction they gain from their hobby comes as much from handling beautifully designed equipment as the moments when they perceive professional quality in one of their own shots. The new PEN-F was clearly conceived to facilitate both. It’s the most powerful ever PEN and one of the most beautiful system cameras Olympus has ever produced. Despite the size constraints of the compact Micro Four Thirds format, the PEN-F inherits much state-of-the-art optical technology from Olympus’ larger, high-end OM-D camera family. This includes its world’s best 5-axis Image Stabilisation system (worth some 5 EV stops when shooting at low ISO), a 50-Megapixel high resolution shot capability, and a built-in electronic viewfinder with a real-time preview of settings adjustments. Some can be set on a new Creative Dial that gives its owner access to an expanded range of advanced filter options. The metal dial is a prominent feature of the much-vaunted PEN school of design, which blends contemporary and retro style elements with luxury materials and quality craftsmanship. Screw heads are nowhere to be seen on the PEN-F! Like its classic ‘step-up’ silhouette, the look, feel and photographic performance of the PEN-F are intended to induce envy in photo hipsters – both on the street and online.

A presentation on the use of ‘Drones in Ireland’ will be given at Photofest by Ian Mac Mahon an aerial photographer for over thirty years and Ian Kiely. Both Ian's along with Peter Downey are the founders of Drone Expo Ireland held recently at the RDS.

The Irish Photographic Federation are delighted to have a stand at Photofest this year 

Make sure to take time to stop at our stand and chat to our members on the day.  We will have a selection of stunning images from our clubs from all around Ireland and some award winning images to show. We are happy to discuss the benefits of being a member of a Camera Club and explain the route through the Distinction process. 

For those that don't know about the IPF we have been serving as the umbrella body for amateur and professional photography in Ireland for over thirty years and is Ireland’s representative body at the UNESCO recognised International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP).

As the national organisation for camera clubs in Ireland it offers a range of services to around 60 clubs and their estimated 5,000 plus members throughout the country. The aim of the IPF is to foster, promote and support the art of photography in Ireland through a range of activities including a number of annual competitions, for clubs and individuals, lectures and workshops, a peer-assessed Distinctions service and an annual yearbook of Irish photography.

The IPF is governed by National Council made up of members from clubs across the country who are elected at its AGM.  The Federation is very much a co-operative movement which is dedicated to helping Irish photographer’s advance the standard of their photography. It also promotes awareness of photography as a highly satisfying artistic outlet and as a leisure pursuit.

As a member of the Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), the IPF has taken part in FIAP’s annual World Championships across various photographic disciplines and has generally achieved high ranking in these competitions.   The IPF also administers a distinctions scheme for members as a means of promoting photographic excellence. Photographers can progress from Licenciate (LIPF), through Associateship (AIPF), to the highest level of Fellowship (FIPF).

For fun and personal progression the IPF run a selection of club and individual competitions throughout the year that allow members to have their images judged against those of their peers.
